VB Biffy #1–4: Screen Printed Poster Series
Jesse Warkentin & Sarah Epp, 2025.
VB Biffy is a screen printed series featuring manipulated photographs of outhouses from Victoria Beach layered with ink drawings that reveal the metaphysical dimensions one may contemplate while seeking solace from within the Biffy.
The humble and utilitarian nature of the outhouse lends itself well to quirky innovations in construction created by the builder. As the outhouse gradually surrenders to nature, its age and character become more pronounced. These increasingly dilapidated structures of a bygone era are santuaries, ancient temples where one may go to have a moment alone in nature, contemplating the cosmos.
It is not so contrived to envision the outhouse as a place for prayer or invocation. The Chinese Goddess Tsi-Ku could be called upon whilst in the outhouse in the aspiration of uncovering the future. There are “Toilet Gods” in ancient Roman society, and globally, that have been invoked to aid in good digestion, agricultural prosperity, and sewer system strength.
There is no end to the power and mysticism of the Biffy.
